Automatic memory administration (oldest data always released for the most recent recordings). The following peak values are automatically recorded: maximum altitude 1, maximum altitude 2, maximum vario ascent value, maximum vario descent value, flight duration and the date of the flight
Option ModeThe addition of the OPTION mode to Flytec's tried and trusted user philosophy means that you now have three operating modes at your disposal: RUN mode (normal operating), SET mode (function adjustment), and OPTION mode (Individual instrument programming). The latter offers you the ability to configure your FLYTEC instrument to your own preferences. The functionality that can be determined in the option mode: vario zero point, vario sensitivity, vario dampening, averaging interval for digital vario display, measurement unit for digital vario display (ft/min or m/sec), ALT 1 in ft. or m, barometric pressure display in inHg or hPa, altimeter calibration, ALT 2 absolute or relative, ALT 2 in ft or m, stall alarm threshold, airspeed correction, airspeed units of measure(mph, kph or knots), turn on-off time display or temperature display, temperature display units of measure( °F or °C).
Power SupplyLow current consumption with two 1.5 volt alkaline batteries (approximately 150 hours). Rechargeable batteries can also be used. Remaining battery power is displayed during power-up (automatic low battery warning). No expensive lithium cells, similar to those used in solar instruments, are used to maintain real-time clock or retain flight memory data! Data is stored for up to 10 years without batteries!
OperationFlytec's operating concept is based upon a simple, well laid out key allocation. All keys are clearly and legibly marked for all functions. Adjustments can be carried out according to a uniform, three step operating concept. All keys can be operated while wearing gloves and have a perceptible tactile feel.

Flytec 4030 XLIncludes all the features of the 4020XL plus the following:
GPS InterfaceWhen connected to a GPS via the NMEA interface (e.g., Garmin GPS 12, 12 Map, GPS III+, eMap, eTrex series, etc.) the 4030XL will offer the following functions: Glide ratio display, Optimized speed-to-fly display, Final Glide Computer.
Glide Ratio Display (actual)When the pilot leaves a thermal, the instrument instantly and automatically switches to glide mode and displays actual glide ratio over the ground. Glide ratio display range up to 199:1.
Speed-to-Fly DisplayIn addition to providing actual glide ratio information the 4030XL automatically displays speed-to-fly information. No input or contact by the pilot is required. In the glide mode the 4030XL will display the next expected thermal based on the the current airspeed. Rather than fumbling with the instrument to change the value for the next expected thermal the pilot merely adjusts the airspeed so the indicator points to the revised next expected thermal. No contact with the instrument is required allowing the pilot to focus on more important tasks. The pilot may configure the 4030XL in the option mode according to his/her philosophy on thermal drift with the wind (0-100%).
Final Glide computerGlide Angle to goal: When the final glide computer is activated (by depressing one key) the 4030XL will display, in addition to your actual glide ratio over the ground, your current glide angle to goal. The glide angle to goal is shown with a up or down arrow to let you know if you are above or below glide slope.
Last Thermal IntegratorAs the pilot climbs, in what will be the last thermal approaching goal, the 4030XL will alert the pilot the moment that goal is within reach. The 4030XL will not signal to leave for goal, however, until the pilot climbs to the optimum altitude.
Final Glide to GoaWhen the signal is given and the pilot leaves for goal the 4030XL will instantly and automatically switch to final glide mode and will indicate the correct speed to fly on final glide as well as the continually updated arrival altitude above or below goal target altitude. If conditions deteriorate on the final glide and goal is no longer within reach the 4030XL will instantly and automatically revert to the last thermal integrator the moment lift is encountered. The final glide head or tail wind component can easily be entered into the 4030XL during the flight as the pilot assesses conditions near goal.
Performance polarsThe barograph function of the 4030XL can be used to generate a performance polar for the pilots particular flight configuration - this will take into consideration the effects of the glider, harness, pilot weight, instrument placement, etc. When flying according to speed-to-fly theory it is very important for a pilot to generate his/her own performance polar and not rely on overly optimistic data from a glider manufacturer or the erroneous data from well meaning pilots flying the same or "similar" glider.
FlyChart 4.32 Professional for Windows (included)In addition to all the features of FlyChart standard the professional version, when used in conjunction with a 4030XL Access, will allow the user to import/ export data, build, manipulate, download and upload performance polars and advanced control over instrument configuration. Minimum requirement: a PC running Windows 95 or higher.
